What is Marketing?

Marketing strategy is at the core of all business. A career in marketing involves working with a variety of people within and outside the firm to research, create, and manage strategies designed to promote the brand and product of an organization. Successful marketers are good communicators, critical thinkers, natural problem solvers, and multitaskers.

At Assumption, you will gain an understanding of a broad range of topics from branding and positioning to promotion and distribution. You will also acquire knowledge and skills valued by the business world by rounding out your business education with courses in our strong liberal arts program. In addition to acquiring proficiency in a broad range of technical and professional skills sought by employers, you will learn how to excel in a global business environment and study in an environment that values ethical and socially responsible business practices.

This program will provide you with the educational background necessary to function successfully in careers ranging from sales, advertising, and public relations, to merchandising, product and brand management, and other marketing occupations. You will develop an understanding of the risks, rewards, and challenges inherent in the marketing profession while developing the ability to identify, analyze, and respond to these challenges.

  • The digital world is a dynamic and evolving environment with new tools and strategies emerging every day. With the use of smartphones, tablets, and other forms of new media, organizations have been discovering new ways to market products and services to consumers and new forms of content to share across digital platforms. The digital marketing concentration at Assumption helps you gain the knowledge necessary to succeed in a digital marketing environment.

    This concentration covers topics such as social media marketing, email marketing, and mobile strategies. You will learn to develop and implement contemporary digital marketing campaigns for any type of organization and learn to make tactical and data-driven decisions using social media measurements, business intelligence, SEO/SEM, web analytics, marketing data, and more.

  • Marketing with a concentration in sales students gain a solid basis for understanding the marketplace through core courses in marketing research, consumer behavior, and strategic marketing, and focus in-depth in the world of sales through courses in Professional Selling, Sales Management, Digital Sales, and B2B Sales. Study Abroad

At Assumption University, the world is your classroom. Assumption’s study abroad program offers culture, history, and a living classroom for all.

Internships

Assumption career planning starts the day you arrive on campus. “Internship in Business” is a 3-credit seminar course in the Grenon School of Business that is available to all business students. The course provides hands-on experience and training, networking and informational interviews with professionals, and assessment of your personal career strengths and interests. You will spend a minimum of 120 hours working in the field. During the weekly seminar, students discuss how organizational behavior and management concepts apply to their individual placements.

Accelerated BA/MBA Dual Degree Program

Apply as a high school senior into the dual degree program with one application and benefit from being considered for a $2,500 Assumption Business Leader Scholarship (per year for 5 years), special programming, and the ability to take up to two MBA courses during your senior year.  We offer two tracks to choose from: Management and CPA (for accounting majors only).
