During my time at Assumption, I have had so many coaches, professors, and support staff that have put my interests first and had expected the most of me over my four years.

One of these individuals was Professor Dan Jones. Professor Jones was a part of the Accounting department at Assumption. I will never forget the day we met. I was a freshman in Taylor Dining Hall, and Professor Jones introduced himself to me. He knew my name, where I went to high school, and where I was from. From that moment, I knew Professor Jones cared about my well-being and my growth as a student and an athlete. Professor Jones and I remain in touch and I am grateful to have him as a professor, mentor and friend.

As a clinical instructor in the Fundamentals of Nursing course, I have the privilege of bringing Assumption nursing students to their first clinical rotation in a nursing home.

Last fall, on their first day providing patient care, one of the tasks nursing students were to perform was assisting patients in eating breakfast. Two student nurses were assigned to a patient who had very limited finger mobility and needed assistance moving food and drink from the bedside table to her mouth. I could see the students figuring out how to help her eat while giving her as much choice as possible. I heard many laughs come from the room during the breakfast period. While I don’t know what conversation was had over the meal, I know that for the rest of the semester a student from our clinical group helped this patient eat both breakfast and lunch, un-asked by me or other staff. The students in this group realized on their own that their care was vital to this patient’s quality of life, and they were quick to give of their time unprompted by any person supervising. What is so important about this story is that in their first semester of patient care, even with all the jitters and anxiety that comes with new experiences, Assumption nursing students demonstrated the core values of caring and teamwork. They cared enough to ensure this patient was able to have basic needs met in a safe and timely manner, and they worked together to make sure that it happened every time we were on the unit.

Undergraduate Research Symposium

Every year, Assumption showcases all the research projects faculty mentors and students complete, showing the scholarly accomplishments of students. Not only is it a great opportunity for experience and to learn something, but allows you to connect with faculty on projects outside of the classroom.

Academic Advising

Full-time faculty work as academic advisors for students at Assumption from the first day you step on campus to your graduation, helping you succeed in your classes and reach your goals. The transition both in and out of college can be tough and that is why they are here to help.

Engagement and Leadership
The Wellness Center sponsors a student peer health education program and supports your growth and development as you meet the challenges and choices faced throughout your college years. The staff provides confidential counseling, which is covered by the student’s tuition.
