Service/Immersion Trips
Inspired by Catholic teaching, week-long service and immersion trips in the United States and abroad help Assumption form students for compassionate service and social justice, while growing in faith.
SEND is Assumption’s primary opportunity for service/immersion travel. These trips, which take place during various University breaks, include domestic and international destinations. The trip to El Paso, Texas and Chaparral, New Mexico, for example, allows students to participate in the ministry of hospitality that the Assumptionists and the Religious of the Assumption are providing to immigrants at the border, while the trip to Pine Ridge, South Dakota immerses students in ministry among Native Americans. Students participating in the trips bond with classmates prior to the trip in preparatory meetings that use materials from Catholic Relief Services, and opportunities for reflection and faith-sharing during the trip invite students to consider how the experiences of the trip call them to greater spiritual maturity and impact how they live out the implications of their faith. Contact Nick Coccoma for more information or to apply.
ServeUP is an annual trip offered during Spring Break by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. The service usually involves rebuilding efforts for victims of hurricanes in Louisiana or Texas. Assumption students join students from other Worcester universities on the trip. Contact Rachel Dean for more information.
