U.S. News Ranks Assumption’s Rehab Counseling Program among Best in Nation

Assumption’s graduate degree program in Rehabilitation Counseling is one of the Best Graduate Schools for Health 2020, according to U.S. News & World Report. Previously ranked 48th, Assumption has now moved up to be among the top 40 Rehabilitation Counseling programs in the country.

“For over a decade, Assumption’s campus and online Rehabilitation Counseling programs have been educating people who are trying to add graduate education to their work and lives,” said Nicholas J. Cioe, Ph.D., director of Assumption’s Rehabilitation Counseling program. “We are consciously choosing to grow our program in breadth by offering opportunities for specialization with new or emerging populations, for example, transition-aged youth and Veterans, and remaining committed to our roots of rehabilitation and disability.  We will continue to encourage our students to attend and present at national conferences as well as provide tuition support to as many qualified students as possible.” 

Assumption offers both a master’s degree and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Rehabilitation Counseling. The program relies on a multidisciplinary approach to prepare graduates for employment in the rehabilitation, human services, or health and education fields. According to Prof. Cioe, the program is “practice-oriented” and combines a strong balance of academic and experiential learning.   

According to U.S. News & World Report, the Best Graduate Schools 2020 includes rankings for graduate schools of Health Care Management, Physician Assistant, Public Health, Rehabilitation Counseling Social Work, and Veterinary Medicine. The organization added that the rankings “are based on peer assessment surveys of deans, administrators, and other faculty members at accredited degree-granting graduate programs in each discipline.”
