Assumption Named a 2019-20 College of Distinction

Assumption has been recognized as a 2019-20 College of Distinction for providing students with “a personalized education catered to students’ interests,” according to the organization. Assumption is just one of three institutions in the city of Worcester, and one of 14 in Massachusetts, on this year’s list.

According to the Colleges of Distinction website, each of the schools are “hand-picked” through a “rigorous vetting and interview process” to ensure that each institution is striving for excellence and “in line with the four overarching distinctions—Student Engagement, Teaching, Community, and Outcomes.” Though varying in size and academic offerings, an intentional tactic that gives parents and students a variety of options, Colleges of Distinction states that all of the institutions of the list are “distinguished by their commitment to the undergraduate experience.”

Assumption’s liberal arts curriculum is steeped in the Catholic intellectual tradition and is dedicated to forming graduates of critical intelligence and thoughtful citizenship. Assumption integrates the liberal arts throughout all of its programs, including newly added majors such as cybersecurity, data analytics, and nursing. Assumption recently broke ground on a new 41,000-square-foot Health Sciences building that will house the School of Health Professions and the Froelich School of Nursing.

Colleges of Distinction explains on its website that since 2000, the organization has been a trusted resource for more than 40,000 guidance counselors across the United States, thousands of parents and students, and hundreds of colleges and universities, with the mission to “help parents and students find not just the ‘best college,’ but the right college.”
