Student Life at Assumption

April 20, 2019

Conway CampbellIn my experience, students who do well in university, and make the most of their time here, are the same ones who become involved in the academic and co-curricular collegiate life. It is for this reason that Assumption University offers a variety of opportunities for students to get involved and stay active.

Resident Student Life

85% of our students choose to live on campus, and housing is guaranteed all four years. Resident assistants (RAs) live on each floor of every residence hall, where they help students acclimate to university life and plan in-dorm activities. We also have a professional staff member living in each area. Peer Ministers are also available in many of the halls to aid students in their faith journey.

Commuter Student Life

Assumption’s commuter students participate in the same activities as our residence students. There are also spaces on campus where they can study and relax while they are here throughout the day, including the newly renovated Alumni Hall Lounge. The Alumni Lounge features a kitchen, conference room, soft seating with television and lockers. Students are also welcome to visit friends and classmates in the residence halls at any time.

Keeping Active

The Plourde Recreation Center is very popular with the Assumption community. Plourde offers all of our students an array of modern fitness equipment, as well as free weights and strength training machines. Students can play racquetball or basketball, swim in the pool, or attend one of the many instructional programs, such as Zumba or spinning. Over 500 of our students participate in at least one of our more than 20 intramural programs and 13 club sports, and all students are encouraged to take part, regardless of their skill level.

The Campus Center

Hagan Campus Center serves as the “hub” for our students, a place where they can hang out, visit the bookstore, eat at Charlie’s or grab a cup of coffee at the on-campus Dunkin. Hagan is also home to a number of student-run organizations such as The Cross-Cultural Center, Student Government Association, and the Campus Activities Board.

CAB and SGA

Our student-run Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Student Government Association (SGA) are regionally recognized as among the very best. CAB helps keeps the student body entertained with weekend activities like comedians and concerts, formal balls, museum trips, thought-provoking lectures and much, much more. SGA members represent their classes and provide input to the University’s administration on important issues. We encourage students to take a leadership role in one or more of these groups, or simply attend and enjoy the events they make possible.

Venturing Out

Worcester is a vibrant “college town” with world-class restaurants, theater and cultural events. Better yet, Worcester’s many businesses, government offices and non-profit organizations provide Assumption students with numerous internships and job opportunities. Through our Friday night shuttle bus service or partnership with Uber, students have ample opportunities to get off campus.

This is a big decision and a time of tremendous change for you, your child and your family. If I can answer any questions, I’d be glad to help. I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!
