Bruce is a retired police officer, having served 5 1/2 years with the Boston Housing Authority Police Department, 28 years with the Quincy Police Department, and 4 years with the Boston University Police Department. He had various roles throughout his police career, including patrol officer, drug investigator, mounted officer, crisis negotiator, patrol supervisor, and firearms instructor. He is a certified academic and tactical instructor through the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee, a Certified Criminal Justice Specialist by the National Association of Forensic Counselors, and a Certified Forensic Traumatologist by the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress.
