U.S. News & World Report Recognizes Assumption as a 2020 Best College

Assumption has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a top institution of higher learning in its recently released 2020 Best Colleges rankings. Assumption was ranked among the top colleges and universities in the North region; a top Best Value School; a top college for Best Undergraduate Teaching; and a top performer on social mobility, a new category, which, according to the organization, “recognizes how well colleges serve low-income students.”

“We are honored that U.S. News & World Report has once again included Assumption among the top institutions of higher learning in the nation,” said President Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D. “Assumption is committed to the liberal arts which are integrated into all of its academic programs so as to form graduates who will make a meaningful difference in their professional lives and in the communities in which they live. To be acknowledged for our value, excellence in undergraduate teaching, and for providing the highest quality of education to all types of students is something of which we are very proud.”

According to U.S. News, the new social mobility category recognizes that “ecnomically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college, even when controlling for other characteristics.” Assumption was included in a group of colleges that are “more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants.”

In July, Asssumption launched the new Division for Student Success, a department dedicated to ensuring student achievement across all dimensions throughout campus. Acknowledging the changing demographics of its student body, Assumption has increased the services, opportunities, and resources to students, in particular first-generation students.

In its profile on Assumption, U.S. News wrote that “faith and academics are interwoven. The school emphasizes personal spiritual growth regardless of a student’s religion.” Last month, Assumption was recognized as a top institution by Forbes, The Princeton Review, and Washington Monthly, and last week was included in The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings.
