National Podcast Features Assumption’s ABA Director
Karen Lionello-DeNolf, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology and director of Assumption’s Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program, recently appeared on the Operant Innovations podcast to discuss the undergraduate and graduate ABA programs at Assumption.
Operant Innovations is an organization whose mission is to promote ABA and through its podcast, explores how the science of behavior improves lives. According to the website, “operant means changing behavior by changing the consequences” and “innovations refer to introducing something new or novel.” The podcast invites behavior analysts to discuss different topics important to the field, and its University Series interviews program directors about different ABA programs in an effort to share information about different options and variety of programs available to students.
“Learning the science of behavior is important in understanding those with unique challenges, such as autism, special needs, and other developmental or intellectual disabilities,” said Prof. Lionello-DeNolf. “I appreciated the opportunity to discuss the ways in which Assumption trains graduates of our master’s and CAGS ABA programs to engage in compassionate service and have a positive impact on clients and their families.”
Assumption’s ABA program uses a multi-disciplinary approach that prepares students for clinical and research-based positions. Upon completion of a combination of coursework and fieldwork, those who complete the Assumption ABA program are well-prepared to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
