Assumption Lauded as a College of Distinction for Military Support

Colleges of Distinction has recognized Assumption as a top school for Military Support in its 2020-21 rankings.

As the number of Veterans pursuing higher education increases, so too does the demand for their personal and academic support. However, Veterans face unique challenges that can impede their success. According to Colleges of Distinction, because of the resources and support Assumption provides Veteran students, it has been selected as a stand-out institution dedicated to helping Veterans overcome their obstacles and achieve success.

Colleges of Distinction states that Military Support Colleges of Distinction “care primarily about the individual student rather than the size of their GI Bill package” and that the schools ensure that military students are supported through comprehensive education benefits, a committed military and veterans affairs team, flexible options, trained faculty, and dedicated campus activities and community support.

In recent years, Assumption, which has been named a Military Friendly School for two consecutive years, has instituted a number of initiatives for Service Members, Veterans and Families (SMVF) to eliminate the challenges related to pursuing a degree; established a Veterans Success Committee and opened a new Veterans-only lounge on campus; and launched a new graduate certificate program that trains individuals on how to work with Veterans and their families and includes a military immersion course to help students better understand military culture. Each year, Assumption holds a Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony to honor those who have served, recognizing Veterans in the local and Assumption communities with collectable challenge coins.

“Institutions with the Military Support recognition are aware of the unique challenges military students face on college campuses,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer at Colleges of Distinction. “Assumption is proud to support and cultivate the skills that military students bring to the classroom, all while helping them achieve their personal and professional goals.”
