Assumption Receives NCAA Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence
On December 18th, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced that Assumption University is one of 44 institutions to have received the 2023 Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence. The NCAA awards this distinction to colleges and universities at the Division II level that have achieved an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90% or above. Assumption is one of only eight schools in the nation to have received this award for all thirteen years that it has been awarded by the NCAA.
“We are extremely honored to be again recognized by the NCAA as a Division II President’s Award recipient. Our students continue to show an unwavering commitment to excelling in all aspects of being student-athletes; this prestigious award exemplifies that,” said Eric Gobiel, Director of Athletics. “This recognition is a true testament to the hard work, passion, and dedication they bring to the classroom and playing surfaces each day, and for that, we could not be prouder.”
According to the NCAA, the Academic Success Rate statistic was created for Division II schools as a way to “develop a measure of student-athlete graduation success that more accurately reflects modern-day patterns of student enrollment and transfer.” Assumption received a 91% ASR, helping the Northeast-10 Conference to achieve the highest number of schools with a 90% or above, with seven schools from the conference receiving the award.
