Exploring Post-Secondary Options for Students: College is Not the Only Path to Success

Apr. 05, 2019
12:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Hagan Campus Center Hall

A four-year college degree has been considered by many, to be the best, or only, path for career success. High school students and their families hear this all the time. Yet, according to a recent Georgetown University study (2017), there are 30 million jobs with an average salary of $55,000 dollars a year that do not require a bachelor’s degree. There are many viable paths to obtain a good job and subsequent career success. While a four-year degree is the best route for some, it is not the only path for students. However, post-secondary training, such as associate degree programs, technical training programs, certificate programs, apprenticeships, state and federal programs, the military and/or employer training programs are essential. This lively and engaging workshop on post-secondary options will explore alternatives to four-year colleges for high school students and will provide counselors (School, Rehabilitation) and Transition Specialists information, tools, and resources to assist students and their families to navigate the best path for career success.
