Cognitive Behavioral Case Formulation and Treatment Planning for Substance Use Disorders
Hosted by the Clinical Counseling Psychology Program, in conjunction with the Aaron T. Beck Institute for Cognitive Studies at Assumption College
Case formulation and treatment planning are essential when conducting cognitive behavioral therapy because people who misuse alcohol or drugs often experience multiple problems. The first part of this workshop will present a detailed explanation of the CBT model of substance abuse. Participants will then learn how to apply these principles to develop a treatment plan to address various substance-related problems. The workshop will include videotaped demonstrations of how to review a client’s substance use episode, and evaluation of co-occurring PTSD or depression. Participants will learn how to develop a CBT treatment plan for multi-problem clients.
Learning Objectives
Participants will learn:
- A CBT model of substance abuse treatment
- Strategies to assess alcohol and drug use problems
- Elements of CBT interventions
- Principles of CBT treatment planning
